Welcome to Astrographica!
Welcome to Astrographica, the new web site dedicated to amateur astrophotography.
The last decade has seen an explosion in the number of astronomical photographs being taken by people all around the world, from all walks of life: the amateur astrophotographers. Never have so many eyes been pointed skyward, and never has such an extensive visual record of the heavens been made. What a pity it would be for all of these photographs to fade into obscurity as time goes on.
The main reason Astrographica was created is in the hope that it will become a central repository for this wonderful collection of celestial photographs. However, Astrographica also serves a number of other purposes.
For amateur astrophotographers:
- A free online space to display your photographs.
- Astrophotographers with existing online galleries can index them here, preserving them for the future.
- Compare your photos with those of others (what color *is* that galaxy supposed to be, anyway?).
- Discuss all aspects of imaging, from beginning to advanced topics, on the Astographica Forums.
For professional astronomers:
- Professional astronomers can search the database for historical images of objects they are researching.
- Eventually, every photograph in the database will indexed by sky coordinates. Imagine the research possibilities!
For everyone:
- The world's best and most extensive collection of amateur astrophotos can be viewed in one place by anyone with an internet connection.
Enjoy Astrographica. Check out the forums, browse the gallery, but most of all, sign up and participate in this unique and talented community.
